Smith to take final lunge at Lebedeva
published: Tuesday | August 30, 2005

WORLD TRIPLE jump champion Tricia Smith is top of the list of six Jamaicans, who have already been confirmed for Sunday's big Golden League, the penultimate in the series of six events, the ISTAF in Berlin, Germany.

In her final attempt, Smith will once again try to upstage Russian Tatyana Lebedeva.

If successful, that would rob Lenedeva of the US$1-million jackpot.

Lebedeva has already won the five previous Golden League meetings and only need to win Sunday and take part in the IAAF World Athletics Final to win the US$1-million.

Dwight Thomas, Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Delloreen Ennis-London and Maurice Wignall are the other Jamaicans listed to run.

The improving Thomas is listed to face a star-studded men's 100m field.

The line-up does not include Olympic and world champion Justin Galtin, but the field will have former world record holder and Olympic and world champion Maurice Greene, Trinidadians Marc Burns and Darrell Brown, Portugal's Francis Obikwelu, American John Capel and Ghana's Aziz Zakari.

HURDLES COMPETITION

Wignall will face world champion Ladji Doucoure of France and the third fastest man this season, Dominique Arnold of United States, in the men's high hurdles.

The smooth running Wignall will watch his female countrywomen, Foster-Hylton and Ennis-London match-up against Olympic champion, Joanna Hayes and former world champion Perdita Felicien in the women's 100 metres hurdles.
