Sandor Panton of Top5Jamaica.Com, in association with the Gleaner Online, guides you through what's new, cool and interesting on the Internet. From Jamaica to the wider Caribbean and the rest of the World, this is the 'Week on the Web'.
IN A previous article, I mentioned the Google Zeitgeist www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html - where Google provides details on the most popular search queries, arranged by date, category and even country.
In addition to that great resource, the popular search portals, Yahoo and Lycos, also provide similar information from their own databases, thus allowing other angles for you to see developing trends as well as what's popular and being searched for on a global scale.
At http://50.lycos.com, the Lycos 50 provides a list of the top 50 searches on Lycos for the previous week as well as a detailed archive which goes back as far as 1999. Accompanying the data is a blog as well as a weekly column discussing trends.
At http://buzz.yahoo.com, Yahoo! gives each subject/topic a 'buzz score' which is based on the percentage of Yahoo! users searching for that subject on a given day.
WEIRD WEBSITE OF THE WEEK

WEBSITES OF THE WEEK
http://www.jamaicans.com is one of the most popular online destinations for the diaspora.
Currently, they're featuring an online survey done in conjunction with JAMPACT, which explores the issue of Jamaicans abroad being able to vote in Jamaican elections.
http://forum.abestweb.com - As with previous weeks, I've featured a second site which is not specifically Jamaican, but possibly of interest to those who may want to use the Internet for more than just playing games and sending email.
The Abestweb Forum is one of the most popular websites for individuals who make a living via various types of Internet businesses.
