MANGAR
FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Joanna Mangar of Immaculate Conception High School is still bubbling with excitement after attaining eight distinctions at the CXC Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.
"I was praying for eight ones and trusting in God to give it to me, so I was overwhelmed when I got the news," she told The Gleaner.
Joanna, who was by no means surprised of her achievements, attributes her success to "God who was by my side helping me through everything,"
She describes herself as disciplined, very organised and self-motivated.
A devout Christian, Joanna said she wants to become a paediatric surgeon because of her special love for working with children.
The unassuming young lady said she enjoys playing the piano in her spare time.
Joanna will be going back to Immaculate in September where she will be doing biology, chemistry, math and communications studies in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) which is equivalent to the GCE A'Level.
"I was absolutely overjoyed. We had taught our children to believe in themselves and depend on God for their success, and to fulfil their highest potential," said David Mangar, Joanna's father.
Joanna got distinctions for biology, chemistry, English language, English literature, information technology, math, physics and Spanish.
