Meet the beauties
published: Thursday | September 1, 2005

Debralee Lewis, Miss Purelene. - WINSTON SILL/FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER

Meet the Beauties in the Miss Jamaica World Pageant. One of the 15 lovely ladies will be representing Jamaica in the Miss World Pageant to be held in Sanya, China on December 10. In the meantime get to know who they are.

Name: Debralee Lewis

Age: 24 years

Occupation: Accountant

Vital Statistics: 35-24-36

Height: 5" 9 1/2"

Weight: 119 lbs

Why did you decide to enter: I entered for the experience, the travelling and to socialise with different young ladies and their style and to see how they go about doing things. At the end of the day its about experience.

What is your best quality: I am always encouraging younger people, always telling them to hold their heads up and to believe in themselves and to trust in God all the way.

If you could change one feature or thing about yourself what would it be: My shyness. I am very shy.

Why do you think you should win: Because I think that I could represent Jamaica very well. I'd be proud and stand tall and say I am proud to be Jamaican.

Name one difficulty you faced in the past and overcame: The death of my mother. That was the most difficult time in my life. I don't think I overcame it but I have to move on because God knows best and I have to accept what I can't change.

Give one word to describe yourself: Understanding.

If you could have lunch with one person, who would it be and why?: The best person to meet would be the Prime Minister of Jamaica. I think I would discuss with him ideas on how to assist young people.

Name one beauty queen you look up to and why: Lisa Hanna. She represented Jamaica proudly and extremely well. I'd love to be like her.

How does being in the competition affect your career goals and how will it affect them if you win?: I don't think it is affecting my career goals very much and it won't affect me very much in the future. It is helping me now.

What is the most important job that someone could do?: To help young people. I strongly believe that the youth of Jamaica do need help, someone to show them the right pathway.
