Show some appreciation
published: Friday | September 2, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ARE WE showing our appreciation to our family and friends, or are we taking them for granted?

'Thank you' is a great way of showing your appreciation for something that someone did for you. It is a great feeling being thanked for something you did, it makes you feel good.

So, how about showing some appreciation? Every day people go about doing nice things for others, however, they go unnoticed.

Dad did something nice for his wife and children, the children did something nice for their parents.

Mom is the housekeeper, the cook, the nurse, the adviser, the therapist and the chauffeur. However, sometimes these nice things go unnoticed.

How about some positive feedback?

Husband to wife: "Honey, thanks for a wonderful meal." "You cut your hair, it looks beautiful."

Children to dad: "Thanks, Dad, for taking us to the game."

Children to mom: "We will wash the dishes after this great meal you prepared for us."

Wife to husband: "Thanks, honey, for mowing the lawn."

Friend to friend: "Thank you for being there."

Okay, so I am getting carried away, but you get the point. There are so many ways to say thank you: Send a thank you card. Drop a note in the mail box. Send an online greeting card.

Send a thank you note in email. Buy them a really good book.

Don't wait until the person dies, then say, "he/she was so kind and good, I didn't get to thank him/her for what he/she did for me," It will be too late. So, remember to say 'Thank you, I really appreciated that.' Don't take others for granted, say 'thank you' today because tomorrow is promised to no one.

I am, etc.,
