JEF bats for new businesses
published: Sunday | September 4, 2005

Hinchcliffe

THE JAMAICA Employers' Federation (JEF) intends to get more young people to start businesses, says president Audrey Hinchcliffe.

She was speaking at the launch of the National Employers' Month celebrations, held last Thursday at the JEF headquarters on Ruthven Road, St. Andrew.

"We are on a concerted campaign to get more people to start businesses. That is going to be the engine of growth for the economy," she said.

With September being marked as National Employers' Month, Mrs. Hinchcliffe said this would be a main focus of the organisation. The theme for JEF month is 'Partnerships for Youth in Enterprise Development and Business Success'.

Mrs. Hinchcliffe said the JEF wants to see the percentage of young people employed by the private sector increase from 64 in 2004 to 75 per cent this year. To this end, the organisation will launch the Youth Employment Network (YEN) in September and the Young Entrepreneurs Association (YEA) in October.
