T&T stop Guatemala
published: Sunday | September 4, 2005

TRINIDAD AND Tobago yesterday kept themselves in contention for a place in the next year's World Cup finals in Germany with a 3-2 win over Guatemala at the Haseley Crawford Stadium in their homeland.

Russell Latapy, who came out of retirement recently to help Trinidad's bid, scored in the 47th minute while Stern John found a brace at the death, scoring in the 86th and 87th minutes.

Guillermo Ramirez (third) and R: Benito Archundia Tellez (61) scored Guatemala's goals in the CONCACAF World Cup final round qualifier.

Gaining maximum points from the game means that Trinidad, with seven points from seven games, are still in with a chance of taking one of the three automatic qualification spots. Mexico and the United States, with 16 points each, before last night's game in Ohio, are basically home and dry.

Costa Rica (seven points from six games) and Panama (two from six) were also in action in last night in Panama City.
