DESPITE ASSURANCES from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) that its Members of Parliament (MPs) would ensure that protests remained within the confines of the law, at least one MP initiated and supervised a roadblock in his constituency.

Mike Henry, MP for Central Clarendon, said he set up barricades in the heart of the May Pen business community to demonstrate to the Government just how strong the people really are.

As traffic came to a standstill at Main Street in May Pen, Mr. Henry, adorned in a green and yellow hat, stated his position.

PEOPLE'S STRENGTH IS STILL HERE

"We have to demonstrate that the people's strength is still here. I have told them, block that piece for the next half an hour, then I'll tell them to clear," he said.

"I am not meant to stand on the sidewalk and say go man go. I want my position to be clear. I don't get caught in halfway house; either I'm going for it or I'm not," he shouted.

But Mr. Henry claimed that though the roadblock was an inconvenience, there were other routes that motorists could use.

He noted that he had informed the police of his intentions and was actually holding residents back from taking more drastic action.

"If I ever say lock down or block up, then from Peasant Valley to Chateau lock down!" he said to loud cheers from a group of his supporters gathered around him.
