Not true, Dr. Taylor
published: Wednesday | September 7, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ACCORDING TO Dr Orville Taylor (2005-09-04): "In another column I observed that hurricanes always originate off the west coast of Africa and follow the routes that the slave traders took, through the Caribbean and up through the Southern United States. More amazing is their tendency to hit the 'Bible Belt" in southern U.S.A., where the Ku Klux Klan is strongest and where the largest numbers of African slaves and their descendants were killed over several centuries."

Dr. Taylor, I can see that you are not a sailor. I believe what you describe is the route of the North East Trade Winds and it is used by any amateur sailor hoping to cross the Atlantic. A hurricane is after all only just another wind. Sorry, Dr Taylor, the earth,s rotation had determined that route long before we left Africa.

A few weeks ago you also stated that Finland has a female Prime Minister and that is incorrect the office is occupied by a male. They, however, have a female President.

I am, etc.,
