DEMPSTER
SHANELLE DEMPSTER, a former student of Bishop Gibson High School in Manchester, is a perfect example of what hard work and dedication can forge.
Having received five distinctions and four credits in the 2005 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate Examinations (CSEC), Shanelle is well on her way to fulfilling her dream of being a paediatrician.
"At first, I did not want to look at the results but when I looked, I was happy and disappointed because I wanted distinctions in food and chemistry," she told The Gleaner. However, she noted that her feelings changed when she realised how well she performed in the other subjects.
The 16-year-old said her extraordinary performance would be impossible without God, her parents and her tutors.
When not studying, the "confident, fun-loving" teenager enjoys talking on the telephone, listening to music and playing video games.
Shanelle will be going to Manchester High School's sixth form where she will be studying the sciences at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examin-ations (CAPE), equivalent to GCE A'level.
While at Bishop Gibson High School, Shanelle was involved in the school's badminton and debating teams, yearbook committee and was also a member of her school's planeteers club.
She got distinctions for mathematics, English Language, English Literature, physics, and accounts and credits for chemistry, biology, Spanish and food and nutrition.
