KINGSTON COLLEGE (KC), through goals by McKauley Tulloch (73rd) and Oliver Blake (90th), turned back St. Jago High 2-0 in their ISSA/Pepsi-Jamaica National Manning Cup schoolboy football game at Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday.

In a game in which both teams missed numerous chances, the Purples had to dig deep in their reserves to break down a stubborn St, Jago side to secure three valuable points, to be second on goal difference to Bridgeport in Group E.

In the lone Group A encounter, Jose Marti held Mona to a 1-1 draw. The schedule between Kingston Technical and Cumberland was not played as Cumberland, along with two other schools, have withdrawn.

Pembroke Hall (Group D) and Haile Selassie (Group F) have also pulled out.

In the feature encounter at the Prison Oval, both KC and St. Jago produced a scrappy first half, culminating with some daring missed chances in front of a packed facility.

Tulloch, who had a hard time convincing his schoolmates of his ability, had the last laugh when he beat two defenders and rifled home a torrid shot to give his team the lead in the 73rd minute.

From then onwards it was all KC as the home team appeared winded and it was no surprise when the visitors doubled their lead. Substitute Oliver Blake, who had been a thorn in the St. Jago defence, found himself unmarked at the back post to head home Tuloch's high cross.

Winning coach, Trevor "Jumpy" Harris, said his team played a game of one half.

"It was scrappy first half but in the second half we started to play more team football and created the openings that we wanted."

Keith Johnson, St. Jago's assistant coach, described his team's performance as poor, but hopes to rebound in the next game.

"When you get chances and you don't finish them in the long run it will tell. We just need to stay focused. This is not the end of Jago. We just have to come back in the next match and lift our head and win," Johnson stated.
