Thrills & spills
published: Wednesday | September 14, 2005

These motorists make their way along what is left of Port Royal Street. Rains associated with Hurricanes Dennis and Emily have left the area in a serious state of disrepair. - RICARDO MAKYN/STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER

THRILL SEEKERS listen up! There's a new attraction now open in the downtown Kingston area - and guess what! It's free of charge! Yes indeed, for all who have ever dreamt of diving for lost treasure or experiencing the belly-wobbling dips and sinks of a boat ride out to sea, now all you have to do is hop in your car and travel down Port Royal Street.

The rains of hurricanes Dennis and Emily have left some gargantuan craters masquerading as potholes right there in the streets for your amusement. Why waste money on roller coaster rides? A trip down Port Royal Street is bound to give you the same feeling. The authorities, obviously thinking of the enormous tourism potential of this new-found attraction, have left the area untouched.

Don't own a car? Never mind! Just standing on the sidewalks is fun enough. You'll see desperate motorists pulling out all the stops to try and beat the sinister sinks - but you guessed it - they never make it. You'll be rolling on the ground in laughter as irate motorists employ some of the most colourful language this side of the equator as they bounce up and down, their cars squeaking and cranking all the way!

It's fun for the entire family!
