JAMAICA LABOUR Party (JLP) Member of Parliament for North West St. Elizabeth, J.C. Hutchinson, appeared in the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
The MP appeared in court before Resident Magistrate Stanley Clarke to answer to charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and breaches of the Solid Waste Management Act.
Mr. Hutchinson was charged by Deputy Superintendent Maurice Robinson, during last week's islandwide JLP-led demonstrations, after it was said that the MP was seen among a group of protestors blocking the main road in Lacovia, St. Elizabeth.
He is being represented by a team of lawyers including Clive Mullings, Cecil July, Dorothy Lightbourne, George Sutter and Jeremy Palmer.
The court heard that though Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas had instructed the police officer involved to return Mr. Hutchinson's licensed firearm, which was taken from him on the day in question, the firearm had not yet been returned at 10:30 yesterday morning.
Mr. Hutchinson is scheduled to return to court on October 12 when his case will again be mentioned in the Black River RM Court.
