WARMINGTON
MEMBER OF Parliament for the St. Catherine South West constituency, 53-year-old Clifford Everald Warmington, will reappear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's court on September 20 to continue his trial for assault occasioning bodily harm.
It was heard in court that on October 7, last year, at 1:30 p.m, the complainant Edris Nembhard, dressmaker, of Old Harbour Bay, St. Catherine, went to Warmington's office in Old Harbour to discuss matters with him about an earlier disagreement between the MP and her sister Sandra Nembhard.
ALLEGEDLY PUSHED BY THE MP
It is further alleged that while she was there, Mr. Warmington stormed out of the office in a very boisterous manner, telling her to leave, as she had not voted for him and she had no right to be there. It was then that Ms. Nembhard told the court that she was pushed by the MP in her stomach and fell on her back, and had to seek medical attention. The MP was subsequently arrested by the Old Harbour police.
In court yesterday, defence attorney Patrick Atkinson cross-examined Ms. Nembhard and maintained that she was lying, and that she had in fact abused the Member of Parliament and behaved in a vulgar and rowdy manner. He further suggested that she had had to be restrained and removed from the office by another woman. The complainant disagreed.
The case was adjourned by Resident Magistrate Simone Maddis, and is to continue on September 20, when the defence is expected to call several witnesses including the MP's secretary.
This is the second assault case involving Warmington. The first occurred in 2003, where a man was allegedly punched in the face. That case was mentioned yesterday but the complainant, Leroy Stewart, did not turn up for court.
