BOTH THE Pick-9 and Super-6 offer carryovers at Caymanas Park tomorrow.
The Pick-9 continues at $1 million and the second of last Saturday's two Super-6 at $519,291.00. Indications are that the Super-6, embracing races six to 11, will offer a payout in excess of $1 million.
It gets under way with a straight five race for native-bred three-year-olds (non winners of two) to be contested by nine starters. Among them are leading lights THE AMERICAN GAL, I AM NOT ORDINARY, ABOUNDING GRACE, HIGH ROLLER and ITAL QUEEN, all effective over the straight.
Champion jockey Trevor Simpson rides the lightly raced but improving filly ITAL QUEEN, while his title-chasing rival Brian Harding is down to ride the highly fancied ABOUNDING GRACE for leading trainer Wayne DaCosta who saddles a second runner in OLYMPIC STAR.
It could come down to Harding and Simpson, or in other words ABOUNDING GRACE and ITAL QUEEN, both of whom have already won over the straight.
Preference is for ABOUNDING GRACE who ran encouragingly over the course last time out when finishing three lengths fourth to ONE SPECIAL LADY in what was a fast run race (59.0). Her personal time was 59.3.
ABOUNDING GRACE, who raced closed up to the last furlong, has looked much sharper at exercise since and back in action from the convenient mark of 51.0kg, gets the nod over ITAL QUEEN and THE AMERICAN GAL.
Simpson should win the seventh race aboard MAMA'S GIRL following her close second to COUNCIL MAN over 1500 metres on August 13 when caught on the wire.
The five-year-old mare from the stables of Donovan Raymond was not disgraced in her subsequent race when finishing third to MARVELOUS MINISTER over 1300 metres and with less to in present company, should win from LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY and Harding's mount BRINGBACKDIMONEY.
The Gary Subratie-trained STORMY SKY gets the nod over stable-companion NO LOAFER and VELOCITY by virtue of her second place finish to stable-companion YAHABIBI over the straight five course on September 3.
IDEALLY SUITED
STORMY SKY is ideally suited to this sprint and although Harding's mount NO LOAFER will be extremely dangerous if not rearing at the start as usual, her biggest danger could be the late closing VELOCITY who enjoys running over this particular trip.
STRAIGHTTOTHEHEART, who has beaten better in the not-too-distant past, finds herself down to $160,000 conditional claiming in the ninth race and despite the good claims of ABUELO (regaining form) and the useful WILD ZONE, she gets a glorious opportunity to rebound with a win. The eight-year-old mare, who has won three races this season, could do so in post-to-post fashion.
KAMIR, the classy three-year-old gelding who was caught in the last furlong by SHOW N'TELL in the recent Jockey Club Stakes over the distance, reports a lot sharper for the 10th race over 1300 metres and should gain compensation with Simpson now slated to ride him. FORGOTTEN HERO (regaining form) and the free running CHOSEN ONE should ensure he does not have things too easily.
The closing race for the Harry Rigg Memorial Cup (claiming $350,000 - $320,000) over 1400 metres has attracted 14 starters, but indications are it will come down to a straight fight between REJECT and CORDITE, both dropped in class.
They last ran in overnight allowance company and were not all that far away at the finish, the Percy Hussey-trained CORDITE finishing 7 3/4 lengths seventh to SHOW N' TELL in the Jockey Club Stakes over the distance on August 20.
Preference, however, is for the free running REJECT who gets the ideal trip on this occasion after finishing ninth (beaten 11 lengths) to DIESEL over 1200 metres on August 27.
