FORMER CHAMPIONS Cornwall College yesterday, bounced back from Saturday's embarrassing loss to Anchovy High to crush debutants Irwin High 10-0, the biggest margin of victory this season in the ISSA Pepsi/JN daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition.
Richard Edmonson led the way with four goals for Cornwall, as substitute Nakia Atkinson grabbed a hat-trick, captain Omroy Wilson scored two and Naraldo Oates scored the other.
Edmonson, who scored in the 9th, 16th, 22nd and 77th minutes, took over the lead in the goalscoring tables with six, one more than Glenmuir marksman Garnell Learmond and Davian Green of Ocho Rios High.
The win also gives Cornwall temporary lead in Zone A on goal difference over William Knibb, who will meet Herbert Morrison in a key game in Montego Bay this afternoon. Cornwall and William Knibb are on nine points each, followed by Muschett, Herbert Morrison and St. James High all on six points each.
Elsewhere, Alroy Dell also scored four times to lead Islington to a 4-0 win over Tacky High in Zone K as they moved into joint second place behind Annotto Bay, who were 2-1 winners over St. Mary High.
Cedric Titus maintained their lead in Zone D with a 5-0 win over Ferncourt as Damin Williams scored twice to lead them to their third win in a row.
Davian Green scored three times for Ocho Rios in their 9-1 romp over Aabuthnott Gallimore, while York Castle and Marcus Garvey drew 1-1 in the other Zone D game.
The competition continues this afternoon with eight games, as six schools will put perfect records on the line.
William Knibb Memorial in Zone A, St. Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) and Munro College in Zone E, Manchester High in Zone F and Spalding and Knox in Zone G are still unbeaten.
William Knibb Memorial, the 2003 losing finalists, will take their three-game win record up against Herbert Morrison in Montego Bay and they will present the first real test this season for the Cassman Williams-coached team.
Herbert Morrison have won twice since losing their opening game to Cornwall College, scoring six goals in the process and will be hoping to make it three straight.
STETHS have won their two games so far and second placed Newell could be the toughest test they will face. Newell were big 5-0 winners over Lacovia in their opening game last week but could find the STETHS team a tougher test.
Spalding lead Zone G with six points from two wins and are hoping to score their second straight win over last season's quarter-finalists after winning last year's return round encounter.
The other schools, Munro, Manchester and Knox have won their only games so far and are hoping to make it number two tomorrow. Munro are away to Lacovia, Manchester host DeCarteret High and Knox are at home to Porus.
