SIMPSON
TWENTY-FOUR local-based players were yesterday called to camp by head coach Wendell Downswell, to prepare for an international friendly against Australia at Crayen College (Fulham Stadium), London, on October 9.
The players are asked to report to camp today at 7:00 p.m. in preparation for Jamaica's first game since the Gold Cup in July.
According to Downswell, the Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF) technical director, the aim is to play an international game every month.
"The game with Guatemala fell through last month, but we are hoping to get it back sometime in the future. We are trying to play an International game a month and would like two more games to close out the year," said Downwell.
The speedy 22 year-old Orane Simpson of Tivoli Gardens is the only new invitee in the squad and Downswell says he has been rewarded for a fruitful season last year.
"Orane Simpson had a very good season last year and we are looking for someone to fill the right back position," Downswell told The Gleaner yesterday.
"Tyrone (Sawyers) has been playing there. We tried Omar (Daley) in one game and he had a good game but we are still looking at people," he added.
The final squad for the game will be known by weekend as the head coach is currently in contact with the overseas-based players on their availability.
The squad includes five players from national champions Portmore United, four from Harbour View and three each from Tivoli Gardens, Reno and Waterhouse.
Squad: Shawn Sawyers, Leighton Murray, Ralston Robinson, Jermaine Taylor, Adrain Reid, Oneil Thompson, Desmond Breakenridge, Tyrone Sawyers, Omar Dallas, Keneil Moodie, Omar Daley, Orane Simpson, Garfield Reid, Jermaine Johnson, Lovel Palmer, Nicholy Findlayson, Jason Morrison, Vincent Earle, Leon Irving, Luton Shelton, Roland Dean, Christopher Nicholas, Wilfred Smith.
