Dibbs to appeal his suspension
published: Thursday | September 22, 2005

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

JOSEPH DIBBS, the embattled president of the Jamaica Table Tennis Association, (JTTA), who has been banned for one year as a player, said he will be appealing the Disciplinary Committee's decision.

"I am going to speak to my attorney about the whole matter. I have done nothing wrong to warrant that," Dibbs told The Gleaner yesterday.

"I am the president so I don't know what position I have in all of this. They have undermined me every step of the way," said Dibbs.

Dibbs, who took over the presidency three months ago after Stephen Hylton stepped down, became embroiled in a dispute with a parent on the opening day of the National Championship at the UTech on September 9, where he was alleged to have struck a young player with a ball.

The child's parent asked Dibbs to apologise but he refused and was barred from taking further part in the tournament before being reinstated the following day.

"How can you take action against somebody without bringing their accusers there?" Dibbs asked.

"They didn't asked me if I did anything wrong. Then they passed so many judgement on me without inviting me to any meeting. They were so happy I went away so they get to do this," he added.
