KSAFA to kick off season October 1
published: Thursday | September 22, 2005

WILSON

THE KINGSTON and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) will kick off its 2005-06 season with the Jackie Bell KO competition on Saturday, October 1.

President of the sport's governing body in the Corporate Area, Stewart Stephenson, told The Gleaner negotiations are complete and added that more details would be released later.

"The discussions with the Jackie Bell KO have been concluded," Stephenson, an attorney-at-law, pointed out. "We concluded the discussions for a new budget going forward. That competition will start October 1 with a press launch scheduled for September 27."

Arnett Gardens, led by a Kevin 'Pele' Wilson hat-trick, won last season's title by dethroning the previous cham-pions, Tivoli Gardens, 4-1 in the final at the National Stadium.

With regards to the federation's three league championships - Super, Major and Syd Bartlett - Stephenson pointed out that they have decided on a start-up date for mid-October but negotiations are still taking place.

"We held discussions with our sponsors for the Super, Major and Syd Bartlett leagues which will start on the 15th of October.

"We had discussions to look at the budget ... and to confirm that we'll have one sponsor for three competitions this year. Those discussions are to be concluded shortly," Stephenson said.

Jamaica National Building Society has sponsored the competitions for the past few years.

Stephenson said as soon as negotiations are finished, a press launch will be held to publicise details.
