Unbearable noise nuisance
published: Sunday | September 25, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WRITE to support the letter of September 20, written by P. Foster of Southfield entitled 'Noise Nuisance'. It is very sad that even in rural areas, people are under siege from those who consider noise a natural part of life. These noise makers are fast turning many residential communities into ghettoes with their day and night noises, and thunderous mobile sound systems, a.k.a. cars.

The Mayor of Portmore and the municipality need to do something about the proliferation of bars and sound systems all across the community, especially those who make noise all week, completely unconcerned about those of us who have to leave our homes at 5:30 a.m. every morning and are often sleep-deprived because of these night noises. I really hope the authorities will be able to take this matter in hand, because the situation is unbearable.

I am, etc.,

KAREN M. HENRY

Portmore
