New-look H View face daunting challenge

REVAMPED HARBOUR View are the team of the 2005-2006 Wray and Nephew Premier League so far as they are the only side still with a 100 per cent win record. Today in the fourth set of matches, they will go up against their toughest opposition in the competition so far when they meet Portmore United at 6:30 p.m. at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium.

In another interesting match-up, the pre-season favourites, Water-house, will attempt to make it three wins in a row and their second over Montego Bay opposition when they host Wadadah at Drewsland in a 5:00 p.m. fixture. Tivoli Gardens, after two disastrous weekends, should get back on the winning road today against Constant Spring. Their chances should be boosted by the return of last season's leading scorer, Christopher Nicholas, who missed the loss to Wadadah while former Bolton, Yeovil and Oldham player Jermaine Johnson will taste action for the first time this season.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Two former giants, the Red Brigade of Boys' Town and the former pride of western Jamaica Reno FC, will go head-to-head in a 3:30 p.m. game at Constant Spring. Both teams have looked respectable so far with a win, a draw and a loss from their previous games. At Prison Oval, home team Rivoli will he hoping to get themselves off the bottom of the table in their 4:00 p.m. game against a restructuring Arnett Gardens.

In the only game in western Jamaica, coach Paul 'Tegat' Davis will take his new team, Seba, to challenge one of his old teams, Village United, at the Elleston Wakeland Centre. Seba will be hoping to bounce back from last week's loss to Wadadah while Village will be going for their first goal in this year's competition.

However, Harbour View where coach Donovan Hayles has managed to mould a young and new-look team into a fighting unit, is where the hottest action should be. While many expected Harbour View to struggle without the likes of Jermaine Hue, Robert Scarlett, Damion Stewart, Nicholas McCreath and Jomo Gordon, Hayles was not one of them.

"I think as a coach you believe in your players. You give them the confidence and then demand what you believe of them," said Hayles of his team. He is particularly pleased with performance of captain Lovell Palmer, who has grown with the responsibility placed on him. Against Portmore, Harbour View will have to be in similar if not better form to get the better of the defending champions.

Portmore have looked a shadow of their former selves so far, but in their squad, they still have the experienced Chris Dawes, Anthony Modeste and Shawn Sawyers alongside the likes of Steven Morrissey, Tyrone Sawyers and Demar Stewart.

NO-NONSENSE TEAM

"Portmore are a team that you do not play 70 minutes of football against. You have to play to the end against them," expressed Hayles before adding, "It is going to be very tough physically and mentally."

Besides Palmer, Hayles will be relying on the dangerous Luton Shelton who will be partnered up front with Leon Strickland. Defensively, Jermaine Taylor and Alex Thomas are playing well together and will be backed up by goalkeeper Leighton Murray.
It will be difficult for Dave Clarke and Ashaine Murray to get the better of them.

"In training, the players have shown that they are up to the task and I hope they follow through on Sunday," said Hayles of his charges who have been joined by attackers Richard West and Rony Amaugo.
