Chill Out in Long Bay
published: Thursday | September 29, 2005

PORTLAND IS one of the most beautiful parishes in Jamaica. From the lush trees to the riveting beach, it is a journey to paradise. As mesmerising as the parish is, it's a long way to Portland and you will get hungry. The good thing is Portland has quite a number of fantastic restaurants, most of which are located on the beach or overlooking the beach. The tranquillity of these restaurants cannot be found anywhere else. If you're looking for a place that serves a variety of food, Chill Out Restaurant and Bar is the place to stop.

COOL WINDS AND SUNNY DAYS

Chill Out is located in Long Bay in Portland about 17 miles from Port Antonio. The restaurant has been around since the early 90s and is owned by Robert Varda. Located on the beach, Chill Out is a thatched roof painted red and white. You cannot miss it. It has a lovely view and while enjoying your meals and drinks you can enjoy the cool wind from the beach on a sunny day.

Chill Out is known for its signature drink, sour sap juice with Myers' Rum. Also pizza is very popular especially for Portlanders. Umar Edmon, a regular patron chills out when he is not at work. Sometimes Mr. Edmon has to win a round of dominoes to purchase his lunch. He said he would love to purchase lobster or fish and bammy for lunch sometimes, but he just does not have the cash. So he mostly settles for rice and peas with chicken and a beer or water.

On the menu at Chill Out: Lobster, shrimp, chicken, rice and peas, soup, pizza, bammy and other delights. At Chill Out you can get scrumptious meals for affordable price ranging from as low as $250 to $1,800.
