Glenmuir, Denbigh retain top records

WESTERN BUREAU:

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Glenmuir High and Denbigh High maintained their perfect win records in the ISSA Pepsi/Jamaica National daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition yesterday after chalking up their fifth wins.

The first round of the competition also ended, yesterday.

Carnell Learmond took his goals tally to 11 when he scored twice in Glenmuir's 6-0 win over Kemps Hill in their Zone I game as the Patrick 'Jackie' Walters team has not conceded a goal in 450 minutes of play.

Garvey Maceo were the biggest winner on the day with a 9-0 hammering of Bustamante High thanks to five goals from Aston Bennett and two more from captain, Michael Wilson.

Bennett's handful of goals took him to second in the standings with nine, two behind Learmond.

Denbigh extended their best start ever with a close 3-2 win over Lennon in Zone H while Edwin Allen also won to join Lennon in second place with eight points.

Herbert Morrison scored their second win over Cornwall College in 12 years, beating the Zone A leaders 2-0 in their return leg game played at Bogue.

The win took Herbert Morrison to second place on 16 points, two behind Cornwall while William Knibb beat Maldon 4-2 to stay in third place on goal difference behind Herbert Morrison.

Zone A: Herbert Morrison 2 Cornwall 0, Muschett 3 Irwin 0, Maldon 2 William Knibb 4.

Zone B: Rusea's 1 Grange Hill 0.

Zone C: Little London 1 Mannings 2, Petersfield 2 Black River 0.

Zone D: Ferncourt 4 Aabuthnott Gallimore 1, Brown's Town 4 Ocho Rios 1, Cedric Titus 2 York Castle 1.

Zone H: Clarendon College 3 Thompson Town 1, Lennon 2 Denbigh 3, Edwin Allen 2 Kellits 1.
