Spanish Town whip Innswood
published: Thursday | September 29, 2005

Rasbert Turner, Freelance Writer

SPANISH TOWN:

SPANISH TOWN High School whipped Innswood High 6-0 in their Issa Pepsi/JN Manning Cup encounter at the Spanish Town Prison Oval, yesterday.

The match started at a brisk pace and Innswood gave a good account of themselves in the first half before the wheels fell off.

The more seasoned Spanish Town High aggregation took the lead in the 29th minute when Ronique Rowe beat his marker and slotted home from a goalmouth melee. The first half ended 1-0.

After the resumption, Spanish Town took charge through the likes of Rowe, Mario Miller and Adrian Pearson and they increased their lead in the 54th minute when Miller passed to Dervan Willis in front of the goal and he made no mistake. Spanish Town went up 3-0 in the 67th minute when Miller weaved his way through a sea of defenders to score.

Goals from Pearson in the 84th minute, Ricardo Francis in the 90th and Brian Bailey in the 92nd sealed the victory for Spanish Town.

Innswood's coach, Dwight Angus, was philosophical after the defeat.

"It's a win and lose thing," Angus said. "When you play football you will win some games and you will lose others. We are now on the receiving end and we will have to rebound and come again,". he said.

Spanish Town's coach, Cecil Thomas, said he expected his team to score goals.

"A team like Innswood should have gotten at least three more goals. However, the players know that we need the win and I am thankful that we came out victorious," Thomas said.
