Rising Stars finale today
published: Friday | September 30, 2005

Teino Evans, Staff Reporter

( L - R ) CHRISTOPHER MARTIN AND NODDY VIRTUE

WHO WILL be the winner? Christopher Martin or Noddy Virtue?

The public will have to tune in to Television Jamaica tonight at 8:30 for the finals of the Rising Stars competition when the new Rising Star for 2005 will be crowned.

Last Friday's original plan of having a live results and performance show at the Emancipation Park in New Kingston had to be abandoned, when a 25,000 strong crowd stampeded, forcing the organisers to bring the show to an abrupt end.

SAFETY CONCERN

"We were concerned for the safety and security of the audience and decided that the only responsible action to take was to reschedule the results show and the concert to a later date," said Harry Smith, commercial director for title sponsor, Digicel.

Mark Kenny, series producer of Rising Stars, said that after last week's unfortunate turn of events, the organisers had to think long and hard and tonight's televised show is the new consensus they have reached.

"We were very overwhelmed and we just felt that it would be easier to go back to the studios and then have the Rising Stars concert in a couple weeks' time at the National Arena."

He added: "We haven't confirmed any dates as yet, but it will be in and around three weeks time, but we just want to get the results out of the way as soon as possible because people all over have been waiting."
