MEMBERS OF the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands said a big "congratulations" to two national honourees last Thursday night.

Finance advisory member, Crafton Miller, hosted the reception for the Rt. Rev. Alfred Reid and Mike Fennell at his Clieveden Avenue home. Both gentlemen will receive the Order of Jamaica; Reid for his outstanding service to religion and Fennell for service in the field of sports.

Members of the diocese came out to celebrate with their colleague Reid who has served the ministry for nearly 50 years. He was described as a hard worker who "has already imprinted his own image on the church".

MAN OF ACTION

Fennell, one of the most recognisable faces in Jamaican athletics (especially when it comes to our Olympics), was lauded by Chief Justice Lensley Wolfe as a man of action and a genuine person. His work in the field of commerce did not go unnoticed either. Fennell also has his ties to the diocese as chairman of the Financial Board. He later quipped that the reception didn't come from diocese funds.

Both men expressed humility at the tributes they had received. They also expressed gratitude to the members of the gathering.

"You (the audience) are highly honoured in our estimation," said Bishop Reid. Fennell recognised the role sports continues to play in the country and was pleased to be a part of that. Both gentlemen received plaques while their wives, Gloria Reid and Peggy Fennell, received bouquets.

Guests then continued with their own personal congratulations as they dined at the poolside.
