FOUR GOALS by striker Jemel Morgan led Yallahs High to 8-0 swamping of Robert Lightbourne High in Group L (B) action of the Issa/Pepsi/JN daCosta Cup competition yesterday at the Southhaven Avenue field.
In fairness to Robert Lightbourne, they began the game positively and they played the ball around early in what at first glance promised to be a competitive game.
But the tandem of wily midfielder Andrew Cockburn and the pace of Morgan up front began to trouble their defensive unit. Yallahs surely began to take over the game and there were signs that it would be a tough game for the purple-clad visitors.
In the ninth minute the speedy Morgan blew by defenders Shaun Stewart and Alrick Crossdale and fired past 'keeper Kodon Thompson. He then broke free again, leaving the defenders in his wake, to add his second just two minutes later and it seemed the visitors knew they were in for a long game. When a goal kick landed directly at the feet of Cockburn, who pushed the ball off and then struck it past Thompson, the writing was on the wall.
Not even the rain would could cool red-hot Yallahs and they would move even further ahead on the stroke of halftime when Dwayne James latched on to a ball played across a soggy six-yard box and fired past the stranded custodian. Morgan would complete his hat-trick in the 56th minute when he expertly controlled a well-weighted cross from Fabian Hurlong to turn and fire into the goal.
SCORED FROM SKIRMISH
In the 75th minute, he sprinted on to an attempted shot which held up in the water to add yet another to his tally. Substitute Kemar Davis closed out the scoring for the home team when he toe-poked a ball in the back of the net, profiting from a skirmish just outside the six-yard box.
The win puts Yallahs the top of the zone with nine points, two ahead of second-placed Seaforth High. The group's other scheduled game between St Thomas Tech and Morant Bay High was rescheduled to Monday, because of the unavailability of players due to graduation ceremonies.
