D Park, JDF go for knockout punch
published: Saturday | October 1, 2005

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

JAMAICA DEFENCE Force (JDF) host Duhaney Park in the first and only opening round match of the 2005-06 Western Union Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Jackie Bell Knock-out competition, at Up Park Camp today at 3:00 p.m.

Super League outfit JDF, the 1992 KO champions, will be hoping to ambush the 1990 winners, Duhaney Park who play in one division lower - the Major League.

In knockout competitions though, difference in divisions count for nothing and Utah Blade, coach of Duhaney Park, says his team's preparation is good plus they have a thing for the marching men of the army.

"The preparation is going good. We know that JDF is a hard running team but we always have a little thing with them," said Blade.

"Duhaney Park usually get by the first opponent and I am hoping that we can continue in the same vein," Blade noted.

"Either JDF come out on top with a big score or we edge them 1-0. It is going to be a keen game because these guys are raring to go," added Blade.

Duhaney Park will be relying on the Scott brothers, Livingston and Jermaine, Ricardo Lee and Dwight Gordon to get them off to a winning start.

Meanwhile Sergeant Owen Nelson, the new coach of JDF, says he has no knowledge of the Duhaney Park team but he is hoping that "they are not geared up yet".

The JDF, known for their physical play, will be approaching things a little different this season.

"Our approach this season is much more of a skilled approach," Sgt. Nelson pointed out.

"I am giving them freedom with their skill and implementing more flexibility and it is going well so far. The players said they feel free," he added.

Terrence Jarrett, Gavaski Walker, Tex Martin and goalkeeper, Patrick McCalla are expected to lead the charge for the JDF.
