Wolmer's brush aside DQ 2-0

WOLMER'S PUSHED aside their only blemish in this season's ISSA/Pepsi/JN Manning Cup after a 2-0 win over Donald Quarrie at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium.

Wolmer's got their goals from the boots of Kurt Thomas in the 30th and Shane Spragg in the 83rd minutes of play.

The win took Wolmer's to 13 points from five games and sole leadership of Group F.

In the 1-1 first-leg draw, Wolmer's trailed from a goal down early and had to wait until very late to find the equaliser.

This time around it was Wolmer's who took the initiative.

Playing the ball around well, Wolmer's found openings as early as the 11th minute when Spragg was put through on goal but booted over the crossbar with the approaching goalkeeper at his mercy.

The miss didn't matter as Wolmer's were gifted a goal less than 20 minutes later.

A well struck shot by Khalil Johnson rebounded from goalkeeper Jonathan Walker, who watched almost mesmerised as Thomas ran past a defender to tap home the rebound.

After that Wolmer's went into a bit of a lull and Donald Quarrie looked the team likely to score the next goal. However, Jermaine Fletcher was in no scoring mood. While he missed opportunities, Wolmer's slowly got back into the game and in the second half a spate of attacks eventually led to the second goal.

A good cross from Andre Sharpe, who had recently come on to the field, found the boot of Spragg. His poor control was turned into a good goal as he acrobatically climbed to take a good shot as defenders closed to clear his blunder.

After the game, Wolmer's coach Vassell Reynolds seemed a pleased man.

"Our goal is to get better with each game and we have been doing that. Today I was pleased with the way we played, but we need to pay attention to the consistency with which we lose the ball," he said.

Donald Quarrie coach, Owen Wright, thought his team wasn't hungry enough.

"We didn't want it as much as Wolmer's did so they took it," he said.
