Cricket body restructures
published: Saturday | October 1, 2005

THE JAMAICA Cricket Association (JCA) has restructured its operations to enhance its capabilities as it gears towards the 2007 World Cup.

A major shift sees Brian Breese now taking on the role of Cricket Operations Officer, and the acquisition of a Business Manager, Paulton Gordon.

Breese, who functioned in the position of chief executive officer (CEO) for a number of years, explained his new role:

"I will just be in charge of everything to do with cricket at all levels, local, regional, and international."

He added that unlike in the past where he was responsible for administrative matters, his primary function now is to concentrate on matters directly related to the game, such as running competitions and ensuring the proper development of grounds, among other things.

Breese Gordon, a former assistant director for community sports at the Social Development Commission (SDC), will be in charge of marketing, business, financial, administrative and securing sponsors.

Paul Campbell, first vice president of the JCA, said the decision to restructure was part of a process to develop the association's three-year strategic plan, which is yet to be finalised.

"We came up with certain objectives in order to drive those critical success factors. We decided we needed to raise the level of administration to take the JCA to be a more efficient and professional unit," Campbell was quoted on CaribbeanCricket.com.

Campbell, who defeated George Sterling for the post of first vice president last year, said the association always employed a CEO based on cricket knowledge and not business knowledge.

Under this new restructure, he said: "We decided to shift the focus of who runs the business side of the game."
