Killing us slowly
published: Wednesday | October 5, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIRTEEN YEARS ago my family and I decided to move out of Spanish Town and purchase a home in Kingston. I need not tell you that I paid over a million dollars at that time and need not tell you how many millions it is now worth - if only we could enjoy it before we all die in our sleep from the smell of effluent.

Jacks Hill main road, Dillsbury Avenue, dear Lord, save us from the many townhouses being erected and all their occupants' body waste flowing into the gully behind my house. I can't sleep or breathe clean air anymore. My son is constantly suffering from headaches; incense and scented candles are the only source of light in my house.

Help, National Housing Development Corporation, you started it in the first place, now fix it or I am going to sue to recover my health and the friends I have lost because I can no longer invite them to my home. How can I eat, sleep, entertain, be happy? Someone needs to look into this NOW, not tomorrow, but NOW.

Thank you Dear Lord for this space so I could beg 'the proper authorities', Ministry of Health, perhaps, to help us citizens from suffocating on other people's smelly waste.

I am, etc.,

Wasting Away
