( L - R ) GOULE AND TALBERT
THE UPLIFTMENT Jamaica 5K, the second race of the Jamdammers 'No Violence, One Love' four-race Grand Prix Series, is set to run off on Sunday in St. Thomas.
The race is set to start and end at the Methodist Church in White Horses, St. Thomas, at 3:00 p.m.
Race director Alfred Francis anticipates a "more challenging race than the Puma 5K".
Francis has also assured competitors that "all details for their care will be attended to - especially in the area of hydration, with adequate water and Gatorade provided".
Following the Puma 5K two Sundays ago, last year's Grand Prix winners Wainard Talbert, of the newly-formed Edward Hector-coached Lion Heart Track Club, and Manchester High's Natoya Goule will be looking to add to their opening race victories.
Talbert leads the male section with 21 points, two more than clubmate Gregory McKenzie (19 points). They are followed by UTech/MVP's Andre Drummond (18).
Goule, who ended 2004 unbeaten, leads the female section with 21 points over GC Foster College's pair of Tamica Thomas (19) and Arieta Martin (18).
Today is the final day for entries which can be picked up at all leading gyms, Western Sports, the JAAA office, The Art Printery Ltd, and at Upliftment Jamaica in White Horses, St. Thomas.
There is no charge for students; however, adults will pay $200. Participants are urged to register before race day to facilitate the efficient running of the road race. Same-day registration will attract a penalty payment of $500.
