Quick response needed
published: Saturday | October 8, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE FRONT page story about the family burned to death is brutal, cruel and primitive. I'm sure the authorities will spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice, but when all is said and done it leaves one very worrying unanswered question: where were the security forces and the fire service when all this was taking place.

According to the report, the house was built of concrete which would allow a few minutes before it would be engulfed and since nowadays cell phones can be found everywhere it is almost certain that the community got into the quick response mode via their phone and summoned help.

At 3:00 a.m., with at least three fire and several police stations located within less than five minutes away, had there been some kind of quick response en route to the scene little Sasha might have just gotten the help she so desperately cried out for before she suffered that fiery death.

Those charged with the responsibility to rescue must do a better job.

I am, etc.,
