Shocking gun terror

THE EDITOR, Sir:I AM shocked and amazed that the gunmen are taking their terror to another level, which is to set a house on fire that caused a 10-year-old girl to burn to death. I am very concerned about the safety of law-abiding citizens because gunmen in general in Jamaica fear no one. Why, when the girl called for help and the neighbours tried to help, the gunmen fired shots at them? In fact, this is not a one of a kind incident. It happens all the time.
On October 18, 2001, for the first time, an article was published in The Gleaner entitled 'Jamaica: Murder Capital of the World'. I thought I had read everything that could possibly be in the Guinness Book of Records. I was wrong. At the rate at which the gunmen are killing the children, eventually Jamaica may soon be labelled 'Child Executioner of the World', another record for the Guinness Book of Records.
Jamaica seems to be making records in crime and violence for the wrong reasons. Finally, who can stop the thugs from killing the children? The children are the future and without them, there is no hope for a future.
I am, etc.,
