Election fever
published: Monday | October 10, 2005

Gonsalves - REUTERS

KINGSTOWN, CMC:

VINCENTIANS ARE anxiously awaiting the announcement of the date of the next general elections.

Political parties are gearing up since many believe the elections, which are constitutionally due by July 2006, will come sometime in November 2005.

The Vincentian, the oldest newspaper here, in its September 23 editorial, urging, "Let's get on with the business of encouraging a new perspective of our lives as a sovereign people," called on Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves to "Call the elections now!"

Dr. Gonsalves has repeatedly said the elections will be held before March 31, 2006, and the date will be announced with much pomp and style.

This has resulted in political pundits concluding that the date will be announced during the 26th Anniversary of Independence Parade on October 27.
