GEORGETOWN, CMC:
GUYANA'S SOLE national carrier, Universal Airlines, will be back in the air for the Christmas season.
According to a statement on its website, the collapsed airline promised to start flying its international routes to North America and the Caribbean "during the first week of December 2005".
The national carrier collapsed last month leaving hundreds of its passengers stranded in the United States, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
The Guyana Government used the airline's GUY$18 million (US$90,000) escrow account to help fund return flights for some passengers.
The statement on Universal's website said the airline "continues to process refunds for all unused portions of airline tickets. Request for refunds can be submitted by mail or in person. Proof of eligibility for refund must include an original Universal Airlines ticket."
"As an extension of courtesy to affected passengers and in an attempt to restore trust and integrity, Universal Airlines crisis management team has recommended the implementation of measures for unused tickets will be deemed 'transferable'," the statement advised.
