Bomb attacks kill 50
BAGHDAD (Reuters): ASTRING of bomb attacks killed 50 Iraqis in the northern town of Tal Afar and in Baghdad yesterday, four days before a referendum on a draft constitution that has divided Iraq's main communities.

Charges dropped against mayor in journalist's murder
LIMA, Peru (AP): A JUDGE in the Amazon town of Pucallpa has ruled there is insufficient evidence to charge a provincial mayor implicated in the murder of a journalist who had accused him of cocaine trafficking, local media reported yesterday.


Merkel's authority seen as limited
BERLIN (AP): CONSERVATIVE LEADER Angela Merkel will have only limited personal power as chancellor in a government of Germany's main right-and left-wing parties, leaders on both sides said as they prepared yesterday for coalition talks.
