Alcoa investigators to probe fatal accident
published: Wednesday | October 12, 2005

INVESTIGATORS FROM the bauxite company Alcoa are due here later this week to conduct a probe into the fatal industrial accident at its Jamalco plant in Clarendon on Monday.

Wayne Anthony Walker, 31, died from injuries he received after chemicals from a tank accidentally spilled on him causing severe burns.

Eight other employees were injured in that incident but they were treated at the Jamalco Medical Centre and released.

Monday's accident came exactly one month after three persons died in an industrial accident at the country's light and power company, the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited.

The Ministry of Labour, which is responsible for industrial safety, is investigating that incident.
