THE 2005 National Pastors and Church Leaders Conference, which has attracted church leaders from across the island and the Caribbean, will culminate today at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
The three-day conference was staged to 'examine the role of the Church in achieving national reconstruction in a time of crisis'.
Errol Henry, a member of the organising committee, told The Gleaner that a lot of suggestions have been made which can become solutions to the problems the affected nations are facing.
SIGNIFICANCE OF CONFERENCE
The organisers of the conference believe that the 'intense search by national and world leaders for answers to the crises being experienced globally' heightens the significance of the conference. Among the extensive range of topics to be touched by the gathering are 'The Church's answer to corruption in national affairs', 'Ethics and morality in national and church leaders' and 'The Church's impact in the world in the 21st century'.
Workshop sessions were led by international speakers, Pastor Sunday Adelaja, senior pastor at one of the largest churches in the former Soviet Union; Dr. Myles Munroe, president of the International Third World Leaders Association; and Dr. Gary Kellner, Assistant Professor of Historical Theology and Director of Extension Education at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in the United States.
The international speakers will share centre-stage with some of Jamaica's most influential church leaders including Rev. Al Miller, Monsignor Richard Albert and Dr. Carlton Dennis, among others.
Today, the third workshop will be held under the banner "Entrepreneurship and the Church". Some of the issues to be examined in this session are 'The Church and the CSME', 'Transforming communities through viable projects' and 'The Church's involvement in profit-making'. The slated speakers for these sessions are Rev. Stanley Clarke and Monsignor Richard Albert, respectively. A speaker for the third and final issue is to be determined.
The curtains will be brought down on the event at 9:00 p.m. with the general closing session. Dr. Myles Munroe will lead the two-hour session.
