THE EDITOR, Sir:
CONTROVERSIAL DJ, Vybz Kartel, in one of his latest songs, speaks of the suffering of people around him. While he extends his love to The Most Honourable PJ Patterson, and Mr. Bruce Golding, he stresses that their popularity will not be enough to stem the rise in poverty, crime, and cost of living. He also mentioned two of our popular female MPs, Mrs. Simpson Miller and Miss Babsy Grange, who both preside over two of the most deprived and crime-infested communities. He is telling them that big talk with a little love and lots of hugs is not enough to fix the problems that plague these areas and the wider society in general.
Political gangs are running rampage all over the city. The very young, the old, the indigent and the innocent are usually the ones who suffer most. Politicians from both sides of the divide need to start rethinking their strategy on how this country must move forward. Putting party before country is a wrong move.
The Prime Minister, in my opinion, made a very damaging and tribalistic statement recently in a community meeting when he said that as long as he lives in this country, even after he gives up his seat in parliament, he is going to do everything in his power to make sure that the Opposition JLP never holds the seat of government.
I have no choice but to concur with Vybz Kartel and shift from red and green and stay in the neutral gear with beige. The Vybz is right; it is an emergency as people continue to suffer everywhere.
I am, etc.,
