LETTER OF THE DAY - Tourism pain
published: Saturday | October 15, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

TOURISM WILL feel the pain of crime. The gentleman who wrote "You couldn't pay me to go to Jamaica" couldn't have said it any better. I am one of those people who are staying away from Jamaica, but I am not the only one doing so. I know many people who said they would never go back to Jamaica.

Don't be naive, the word is spreading here fast about the violence there. So before you go off about clever marketing and advertising campaigns to get visitors to Jamaica, try fixing the crime problem first. Don't forget the best form of advertising is 'word of mouth'. Jamaica needs new blood in politics, not the same old corrupt and ineffective ones we have now.

I am, etc.,
