First class care after accident
published: Friday | October 21, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

SOME WEEKS ago I had a motor vehicle accident in Bull Bay. I suffered facial injuries and people in the village square rushed to help transport me to the Bull Bay Police Station from where I was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital.

The service in the emergency unit at KPH is first class. I had the best attention, from the porter who rushed out to meet the police vehicle and transported me to the treatment room, to the nurse who cleaned up my face in the gentlest way, to a most understanding and competent doctor, to the technicians in the X-ray room, to the administrative staff.

I was transferred to Andrews Memorial Hospital because the nature of my injury required the services of a plastic surgeon, and the island's acknowledged best, Dr. Guyan Arscott, was on call at that hospital. Again, I was totally impressed with the quality of care which I received in this hospital. The nursing staff is superb.

I am mending now, but my experience has taught me one thing. Kingston Public Hospital is a gem, simply because of some of the people who work there under very trying conditions. KPH has some outstanding medical practitioners and caregivers who are working under very difficult conditions.

I write this letter to give thanks for my life. I thank the people of Bull Bay who helped me in a moment of distress, the police who rushed me to medical help, the staff of the KPH's emergency unit, and the staff of Andrews Memorial Hospital.

I am, etc.,
