Swim meet gets under way today
published: Friday | October 21, 2005

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

THE FIRST swim meet of the 2005-06 season is set to get started today at 6:00 p.m.

With the National Stadium swimming pool as the venue, the 'AB' Short Course swim meet will accommodate 350 swimmers from nine clubs around the island.

Barring inclement weather, Y-Speedos, Blue Seals, Electric Eels, Dolphins, Flying Fish, Marlins, Montego Bay Unattached and the defending champions, the Tornadoes Swim Club, will take part.

Tornadoes arsenal this season includes the ever improving Brad Hamilton, who managed to tag three gold medals for his club in the Florida Gold Coast 'A' Invitational Championships in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

FORTE PROMISING

He will be joined by Stefan Brown and Jason Adams.

Young Brian Forte also looks quite promising. A good performance from him will be a bonus for the defending champions.

In the girls' section, the Tornadoes will be hoping for dominant performances from Dominique Doeskin.

He meet will serve the larger function of being a qualifier for the 2006 CARIFTA Swimming Championships earmarked for Barbados.

The competition is broken into sessions with first beginning at 6:00 this evening.

There will be a morning session tomorrow at 8:30 and an evening session that will begin at 4:30.

The final session of the meet begins on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
