Maverley, Santos to clash in KO feature
published: Saturday | October 22, 2005

LAST WEEK'S rain-hit matches in the Western Union/Kingston & St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Jackie Bell Knockout competition will be played today.

The feature clash of the eight on today will be the Super League meeting between Santos and Maverley/Hughenden to be played at Maverley Park.

All games are slated to kick off at 3:00 p.m.

Santos' coach Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis said the rain has affected not only his team, but all the teams.

"It affected us a lot because we only had one day of training and that was on Thursday," he said.

He is, however, hoping "that they (players) will carry over what they had from the week before in the game".

LOST A FEW PLAYERS

Santos, according to Dennis who is also a vice-president of the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Asssociation (KSAFA), have lost a few players to premier league clubs, but he still expects his team to perform well in this their first game of the season.

"I think we have a very strong squad and some good young players ... we will be competitive," he pointed out.

Maverley/Hughenden's coach Dennis Duncan, also said the weather affected his plans, but he too believes all teams were affected.

He said within the week: "We only got in 60 minutes on Thursday. We played a little scrimmage game to try to get the players back in the same frame of mind and it did look good," he said.

PLAYERS EXCITED

This will also be their first match of the new season and Duncan pointed out earlier that "... they (players) are excited about the competition".

In other matches: Rae Town face Cooreville Gardens at Breezy Castle; Greenwich Town take on Whitfield Town at Tinson Pen; Bull Bay entertain Swallowfield at Bull Pen; Mountain View United travel to Queensborough to play Meadforest; Elleston Flats await Allman/Woodford at Mona Bowl; Pembroke Hall and Meadhaven clash at Pembroke Hall High; while Shortwood will play Cavalier at Shortwood.
