Marsh, Foster headline table tennis entries

MARSH

NATIONAL MALE and female champions Christopher Marsh and Yvonne Foster headline a host of top table tennis players expected to challenge for the 2005 Manchester Tournament which begins at 10:00 a.m. today at the Ingleside Wellness Center in Mandeville.

Expected to be joining Foster and Marsh are Kane Watson, Darryl Strachan and veteran Gavin Campbell.

Former national Nigel Webb, who is currently away on a training course in China, has also sent in an entry form for the tournament.

The top guns will, however, have to wait until tomorrow to get into action and they will not play at the same venue, but at the Northern Caribbean University.

Today's play will be reserved for players living or working in the parish on a daily basis.

The tournament will see play in the boys Under-12, U-15, U-18 and U-21 singles categories, the girls will play in U-12, U-15 and U-18 singles categories.

Tomorrow's play will be in the Men's Open, Under 2000 Rating (B), and Under 1750 ("C") categories. The women will play in an Open Singles and a Women's B (Under 1500 Rating) category.

The tournaments Men's Open winner will receive $15,000 the runner-up $7000, and both losing semi-finalists $2500 each.

The Women's Open winner will receive $7000, and the runner-up $3000. In addition, the Men's Open winner will receive a weekend for two courtesy of Jake's Hotel.
