JAMAICA COLLEGE added more to the woes of José Marti, whipping them 9-0 as the end draws near in round one of the ISSA/Pepsi/JN Manning Cup.

After going to the break leading 3-0 at Old Hope Road, Jamaica College struck five goals in 18 second-half minutes which crippled the ailing José Marti team.

The onslaught was led by Kemar Daley who scored a hat-trick and substitute Collin Gallimore (17th and 45th minutes) and Ja-Ir Gooden (71st and 72nd ).

Daley got Jamaica College's opener in the 20th minute with a sweet drive from the top of the area. His other two strikes came in the 62nd and 78th minutes. Anthony Pinnock (60th) and Kemar Bedward (86th) were the other boys on target for JC.

The win pushed Jamaica College to 16 points from eight games as they remain firmly in charge of Group A.

For José Marti though, the heavy defeat was salt in the wound as, although they are without a chance of qualifying for the next round, their huge concession pushed their goal-conceded column to an unenviable 31. They have scored just once in six games.

Alfred Henry, coach of Jamaica College, said the result was a welcome one but one he could not judge owing to the weakness of the opposition.

GOOD MORALE BOOSTER

"Scoring nine goals is a good achievement but we must take into consideration the fact that we played a weak team and so we can't really compare it," he said.

"It is a good morale booster going into the second round but the challenge would be to get the guys to stay focused," Henry said.

"This team has overachieved. Right now, we aim to continue playing good football in the second round ... Getting beyond it would be a bonus," he said.

Meanwhile, a disappointed Winston Parnell, coach of José Marti, said that bad weather robbed his team.

"JC is a better team but if we had got in a bit more practice sessions we would have played better," Parnell said.

Still with two games to be played, he said that he will be going back to the school to start the building process with the younger boys when their campaign officially ends.

Meanwhile, the Kingston College versus Bridgeport game was called off yesterday because of a wet and soggy field at Collie Smith Drive and will now be played tomorrow at the Ferdie Neita Park, Portmore.
