PM to present sugar strategy today

PATTERSON

PRIME MINISTER P.J. Patterson will today present in Parliament Jamaica's national sugar strategy in light of impending price cuts by the European Union (EU).

The EU plans to cut by 39 per cent the price paid for African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP)-produced sugar over the next three years.

Jamaica's share of a compensatory fund of ¤40 million , available for the 18 affected ACP countries will be based on a strategy presented by Mr. Patterson
