THE CAYMAN Islands will delay its visa requirements for Jamaicans until November 1, having originally planned to introduce the measure last Thursday.
The decision follows a trip to The Cayman Islands by Prime Minister P.J. Patterson when he made an address to the chamber of commerce on Saturday. It was the chamber that had lobbied the Cayman Government to make the change after Jamaicans were blamed for the island's recent rise in crime.
JA COULD RECIPROCATE
Mr. Patterson told them that while Jamaica respected any country's right to impose immigration measures it con-sidered justified, Jamaica would consider reciprocating.
He urged the Cayman authorities to reconsider their involvement in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) although they are an associate and not a full member of CARICOM.
Closer regional cooperation in the context of globalisation and trade blocs was important said Mr. Patterson. Jamaica, he said, remained committed to deepening its relations ahead of the CSME's full implementation in January next year.
