Cayman visa fees announced
published: Friday | October 28, 2005

Ross Sheil, Staff Reporter

THE CAYMAN Islands is to charge Jamaicans US$102.40 (J$6,300) for a visa to visit that country, its government announced yesterday.

Currently, Jamaica has no visa restrictions for Caymanians. However, Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, on a visit to The Cayman last week, said Jamaica would consider reciprocating against any country that imposed visa restrictions on Jamaicans.

The Cayman Islands visa office, located in New Kingston, will open next Monday, October 31, ready to process the visa restrictions which come into force the next day.

The office is located on the ninth floor of The Towers on Dominica Drive in New Kingston. The telephone number is 876-906-5336.

Jamaicans wishing to travel to Cayman can visit the office between 8:00 a.m. and 12 noon, Monday through Friday. Those living outside of Jamaica should visit their nearest British consulate.

The non-refundable fee must be paid by bank draft, made payable to The Cayman Islands Government. This, along with the following items, must be submitted when applying for a visa:

* A completed and signed 'Application for Cayman Islands Visa' form;

* A valid passport with at least six months, validity remaining and enough space to insert a visa;

* One recent passport-size colour photograph taken on a plain white background. It must be glued, not stapled to the application form;

* Your police record.

It is also beneficial for applicants to include original documentation of personal circumstances, such as bank statements, evidence of employment, or proof of assets.

Processing of the visa request takes approximately two weeks. The decision will be made in The Cayman Islands and notification will be sent through the office in Jamaica to the respective applicant.
