LAST SATURDAY evening the pool side of the Colombian Ambassador's Jacks Hill residence came alive with cheerful conversation and dance. The occasion was the Latin American Women's Club's Wine and Cheese Party, and both 'Latinos' and others had their fair share of fun.
At first the guests were a bit bashful about stepping out on to the dance floor, but soon enough they were wiggling their hips and shifting their legs to the musical forays of Cuban DJ Thony Price. Latin Americans are well known for their proficiency in dance, and they lived up to all expectations as they twisted and twirled across the terrace with much energy and enthusiasm.
SIPPING WINE
While some were dancing, others sipped wine while enjoying the treats from the buffet, laden with an array of cheeses as well as a few Latin American dishes, like Guacamole with Tortilla Chips.
Midway through the festivities, the public relations officer of the Latin American Women's Club, Cecilia Hanna, unveiled a colourful Dominican painting, courtesy of Vanessa Limited in Central Plaza, which was to be raffled that evening. Tickets were sold at the party and the proceeds from the sale were to fund a number of the Women's Club's projects.
ORGANISATIONS TO BENEFIT
Among the organisations and activities that will benefit are S.O.S. Children's Village, Stella Maris Foundation, the University of the West Indies' Spanish Department, and this year's 'Canastinalla' activities, a Latin American tradition of giving gifts to the first three children born on Christmas Day.
Among those who turned up in support of the Latin American Women's Club were: the Spanish Ambassador Jesus Silva, the Dean of the Consular Corps Dennis Francis, the Deputy Head of Mission from the Venezuelan Embassy Madai Hernandez, the Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Filomena Navarro and the Venezuelan Ambassador Noel Martinez.
